Sun care

4 situations in which you should use sunscreen

The summer season is approaching and with it the days of beach and sun. There is no doubt that during these days we are more aware than ever of the need to protect our skin from the effects of the sun.

Fortunately, there is a lot of awareness about the consequences that prolonged exposure to the sun without proper protection can bring.

But in case there is any doubt, we will tell you what sunscreen really does for you.

What effect does sunscreen have on the skin?

Sunscreens have the function of helping to prevent ultraviolet rays from reaching the skin. This does not mean, in any case, that a sunscreen prevents your skin from tanning in the sun. The sun sends two types of ultraviolet rays that are very harmful to health.

On the one hand, UVA rays. These rays are capable of penetrating the skin more deeply, causing the skin to age faster, losing its elasticity and smoothness. And, on the other hand, UVB. This type of exposure is linked to most sunburns and also to an increased risk of skin cancer.

So, from now on there are no excuses for not using sunscreen every time you are going to expose yourself to the sun's rays. Now, is it necessary to use a cream to protect yourself from the sun during winter?

Situations in which it is necessary to protect the skin from the effects of the sun's rays and blue light.

1. It's summer, but it's a cloudy day.

This is the typical situation in which we have all thought: “I'm not going to use sunscreen. So that? No sun".

Just because you can't see the sun doesn't mean that UVA and UVB rays don't reach your skin equally. During summer days the sun is much closer to the Earth and the radiation reaches our skin with more power. That is why it is very necessary that you use sunscreen, also on these days.

2. It's not your first day at the beach and your skin already looks tanned.

Another myth that exists about whether or not to use sunscreen is skin tone. Whether because your skin is already tanned or because its tone is darker than others, it does not mean that it is not necessary to use sunscreen.

It is true that darker skin has more melanin than whiter skin and this means that it takes a little longer for them to suffer the consequences of the sun, but they are not immune.

Whatever skin color you have, use sunscreen.

3. It is winter and a trip to the snow or the mountains is organized.

Although during winter the sun does not reach the Earth with as much power as in summer, we must also take into account the altitude at which we are.

If during the winter we go on a mountain excursion to a peak or go to the snow, it is necessary that we apply sunscreen.

4. Any day of the year, inside the office.

Although you may not know it, sunscreens also protect us from visible light (HEV blue light) and infrared light (IR). Yes, you read that right. There is not enough awareness about the dangers of blue light for our skin, but there are more and more articles in which it is recommended to use a protector that protects us from this type of rays since they directly influence skin dehydration.

In the same way that we apply sunscreen when we go to the beach, we should also do it when working in front of a computer or using our cell phone.
